About me

My name is Ingrid del Carmen Montes-González and for the past thirty-eight years, I have been teaching at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and performing research in the area of chemical education. Our research work is based upon the theoretical perspective building on constructivist and meaningful learning theory. Another research area is related to synthetic organic chemistry. Our researches explore the synthesis and characterization of various ferrocene derivatives that exhibit remarkable stability in their structure. Ferrocene and its derivatives constitute versatile and interesting scaffolds for the global chemical enterprise due to its multiple applications that range from biomedical to materials science. Ferrocene has proven to be an excellent bioisostere that improves bioactivity, such as anticancer, antimalarial, antioxidant, antimicrobial, low cytotoxicity, and high lipophilicity. Ferrocenyl derivatives such as chalcones, stilbenes, aromatic ethyne, and cannabidiol analogues, are the leading compounds in our research for the syntheses and characterization as well as their potential applications.
